IDEs provide features like code completion, step-by-step debugging, source control integration, and project/workspace management. Just realize that Notepad++ is a text editor, yet you're comparing it to an IDE. No splash screen, no waiting for it to load, no having to setup a project/workspace first. py file -> open in Notepad++ and it's open instantly. I also wouldn't use it for large programs (those spanning multiple files) - but for quick short scripts I love how fast it is to work in. Notepad++ is more light weight than VSCode, but not by a significant amount. As stated before I used Notepad++ for C++ so I'm not attacking a text editor. In that sense more people may transition to VScode and leave other text editors just because how supportive VScode is. This flaw in Notepad++ might cause people to avoid using Notepad++ altogether and settle with something like VScode, because people don't want to switch text editors just to code in a different language. In this instance its terrible to transition from VScode to Notepad++ to make a few additions and in this sense it is terrible to use Notepad++ to code in Python. So I added the couple of lines of Python code using Notepad++ and everything looks indented like it should like in VScode, but when I tried to interpret the code with the Python interpreter it gave indentation error issues. I made a huge project with hundreds of lines of Python code, but it needed a couple of lines of Python code and I was near a computer that did only had Notepad++ installed and needed a quick fix. I then spent time using VScode to code in Python. A few years back I would use Notepad++ for my programming in C++ which was fine at the time.
